Note from the Author:

The Execution Ground of Deltras today is a monument in Asmodae, a bleak, forbidding tower in the desert, hewn from rough rock. We Elyos have no such monument to commemmorate this brave Daeva's passing, cherishing him instead in our memory. I set down this account to compile the oft-conflicting tales of that fateful expedition into a definitive, truthful version. May Ariel illuminate the truth and guide my hand.

Deltras and the Storm Legion

Deltras was a Guardian of Nezekan, the Lord of Justice.

This Templar was already known for his outstanding abilities in Sanctum. Everybody cheered as he walked down the streets in his silver armour and with his shield on his arm.

Deltras led the Storm Legion, which consisted of the finest gladiators, templars and clerics.

For a long time they fought side by side, captivating everybody with their extraordinary abilities. Their particular strength lay in their blind, mutual trust. Thus, they became one of the most distinguished legions in Elysea.

Brigade General Deltras was an exceptional leader who always fought on the frontline and gave his men due credit. The Storm Legion would have followed him everywhere.

To the Abyss!

At that time, the Abyss was discovered.

The Abyss was an unpredictable place. Many of the Daevas who entered it never returned.

When the connection with the Guardian Vanguard who was supposed to be exploring the Abyss was lost, Deltras decided to fathom the secret of the Abyss himself.

Thanks to the reports which the Storm Legion regularly sent to Sanctum, it is well documented what happened to Deltras’ Troop in the Abyss.

Deltras and the Storm Legion scoured the area where the Vanguard had disappeared. There they came across Balaur, who had been corrupted by the Abyss and battled them.

The Storm Legion made short work of them.

The Missing Storm Legion

Deltras’ Troop believed that somewhere in the Abyss there must have been Drakans who had not yet mutated. They explored every region. Then they found the Rift deep in the Abyss.

The Storm Legion thought that the Rift was a gate which led to another place in Elysea, or a portal connected to the place where the Balaur resided.

A group of legionaries wanted to go on ahead and explore the situation, but Deltras feared an ambush by the Balaur and decided that they would all go in together.

And so the Storm Legion vanished from this world.

The Legion happened upon another portal, and, assuming it would lead back to Elysea, sought the promise of rest. When they emerged on the other side, they were shocked to find themselves in a cold and barren desert unlike any place they had ever been. Fearsome figures awaited them--strange creatures, tall and clawed, with manes of fur down their backs, but still Human enough. The Storm Legion drew their arms and stood their ground and the Asmodians did the same, their eyes glowing a bestial red.

Deltras announced himself as emissary of Elysea and made plain his peaceful intentions. A commanding figure stepped forward and bade the Asmodians stand down, addressing Deltras in a strange tongue. Seeing Deltras' incomprehension, the man spoke in the ancient Atreian dialect, still known among Daeva. Deltras was shocked to discover that the man was none other than the Empyrean Lord Zikel!

Deltras knew his history. Zikel had joined in Lord Azphel's reckless aggression and caused the destruction of the Tower of Eternity. As their leader was a legendary madman, Deltras knew there would be no reasoning with the brutish Asmodians.

Deltras struck the first blow, drawing his axe with lightning quickness and smiting Zikel with divine ferocity. But even great Deltras was no match for an Empyrean Lord, and Zikel responded with a bolt of burning energy that pierced Deltras' armour and felled him instantly. The rest of the Storm Legion, realising Zikel's indomitability, called the retreat. Alas, the portal had already closed behind them, and the Asmodians fell upon them like a pack of starved Worgs.

Only ten men escaped the slaughter, and only two of ten found a way to Elysea. The two of them, Triton and Akarios, came to Sanctum as swiftly as they could on their bloodied wings. Bowing before Lady Ariel, they made their report--the other Empyrean Lords had survived, and their followers now walked a path of darkness. Lady Ariel grieved deeply. The Balaur, the Shedim Lords--all Elysea's past foes and tragedies had rebounded in a day.

Consumed with rage, the dishonourable Lord Zikel unleashed his magical powers and attacked Deltras and the Storm Legion.

Deltras and most of the Legionaries were killed. Only a few of them, including Triton and Akarios, escaped.

In his fury, Zikel gave the order to kill the Elyos who had escaped.

After a long search, Triton and Akarios found a gate to Elysea and returned to Sanctum. They didn’t know where the other Guardians were.

In the end, only Akarios and Triton were able to carry out Deltras’ final command.
