Did the rift look just like the one that appeared in Atreia recently?

That’s a different problem entirely. The Atreian rift exploded shortly after it appeared.

It’s possible that they’re similar rifts, and that this one is unstable and dangerous too.

Maybe we should try to get out of Laphsaran as quickly as we can. I’ll report all of this to the Commander immediately.
