Before we start...

This book is compiled of articles written about Daevas wanting to become Agents of the Empyrean Lords and may differ from actual facts.

Please decide for yourself whether it might be the truth.

Author: Daeva of Rumors

Let's say you want to become an Agent of an Empyrean Lord.

An Agent is one of the Four Wings of an Empyrean Lord and is a close assistant to him, carrying out various missions.

The following things are needed to raise to this prestigious and honorable position.

First, you need to be a Daeva.
Second, you need to receive the recognition of 'Class Preceptor'.

Those are the first two necessary steps.

But that isn't enough.

Generally speaking, humans can become Agents within a day. However, this has never actually happened.

Becoming an Agent is different from becoming the commander of Pandaemonium. You need more than just success.

Agents are selected from among the members of the Empyrean Lord's Legion. They could theoretically invite anyone to become an Agent but usually prefer to raise one from among their own to the position.

So far, there has only been one person who, some 600 years ago, became an Agent without having been part of the Lord's legion.

So even though this list is not mandatory, it includes the following.

First, you need to be a Daeva.
Second, you need to receive the recognition of 'Class Preceptor'.
Third, you need to be part of the Empyrean Lord's legion.

Those are the three unofficial requirements.

So you have to become a member of the Empyrean Lord's legion first, before you can become an Agent. To do this, you have to climb a ladder comprised of several steps.

In the first stage, you need to become a Brigade General of a legion which has at least 6 members.

Other than with regular soldiers who receive orders from headquarters and carry them out passively, an Agent has to understand the Lord's mission and be actively involved in it.

To be able to do so, the Daeva obviously has to have exceptional talent and lots of practical experience.

Even if those conditions are satisfied, you still have to have 5 followers behind you. That means that you need to be the Brigade General of a legion with 6 members, including yourself.

This will prove that you are a trustworthy and reliable Daeva.

However, this isn't all. You need to do more than that. To do so, you need to prove yourself as a wise and able Daeva.

The second step is to become the Brigade General of a union.

Brigade Generals of unions are picked even more meticulously.

According to an unofficial survey of the Pandaemonium Legion Office, there are about 10,000 smaller legions registered and founded, which means there are 10,000 Brigade Generals. However, there are only about 100 Brigade Generals of unions.

A regular legion's Brigade General is free like a mercenary when it comes to responsibilities and activities, but the union Brigade General is obligated to participate in the region and its society. He has to protect the region and bear responsibility for it.

To become an official union Brigade General, a Daeva has to have official recognition from Sanctum.

The Daeva will also have to wait until one of the existing union Brigade Generals protecting a territory steps back or returns to the flow of Aether. Then a position will open up.

Even if a position is open, you cannot just apply thoughtlessly. There is a secret list of reserve Brigade Generals.

The list of reserve Brigade Generals is renewed every 3 years and already includes replacements for the current union Brigade General.

To put your name on the list, your name needs to be well known for having contributed to the territory and its society among other things.

You will be evaluated on whether you've been a Daeva for more than 30 years, if it has been at least 5 years since you've become a legion Brigade General, and if you've been acknowledged by the Lord's legion.

If you fulfill all the requirements named above, your name might be included in the list or it might not be included.

Which is because you also need the permission of the Empyrean Lord and his council.

The Brigade General of the union is then sent to each of the Empyrean Lord's battles. In the battle, three contenders are assessed and the most outstanding one is selected.

However, that's not all. The list from the battle is then sent to the Lord's council who also evaluates all contenders.

If the Lord's council does not like the 3 contenders who received recommendations, they will include others to the list.

Then the battle will start again, and again 3 contenders are selected, investigated, and interviewed. The results are then sent to the council again.

When the council finally sees a contender they like, the name will be sent to the Empyrean Lord's Agent.

The Agent can repeat every step once again.

That means that if the position of a union Brigade General opens up, it will still take several months or even years to fill it.

To sum up, you need to be in the lucky position of knowing a union Brigade General who is ready to retire or return to the Aether, freeing up the position.

Then your name needs to be on the list of replacements, then among the 3 contenders of the Lord's battle, then be approved by the Lord's council... And that's if the Agent doesn't disapprove of you...

Tadaaa! Now you're a union Brigade General.

But you still haven't reached the end. Becoming an Agent is still a long path.

In stage three, you have to become part of the Empyrean Lord's legion.

Even though the name is very impressive, the Empyrean Lord's legion isn't actually positioned above the union.

The Lord's legion is also in charge of protecting the territory but they only differ in title and with an added responsibility.

That added responsibility is selecting a new Agent.

The only way to become a member of the Lord's legion is to be appointed personally by an Agent but there are no records of how this happens.

The only thing we know is that there are only 8 union Brigade Generals among the 100 members of the Lord's legion.

Okay, now that you've climbed this difficult ladder to the top and the Agent has recognized your ambitions and fame, let's pretend you've been accepted into the Lord's legion.

Then the only thing left now is waiting out the current Agent to retire or return to the flow of Aether.

The Empyrean Lord's Agents are made up of just four people, representing the Four Wings of the Lord. As long as they don't step down outside of their own free will or perish, they will not lay down duty and responsibility.

Considering that Daevas have eternal life, the position of an Agent doesn't come up very often.

Should such a tragedy happen, however, and the Agent's position is free, then we can at least suppose you have the qualifications to replace them.

Then you will go through the following procedure.

When the time has come to select an Agent, all missions of the Lord's legion members will be suspended. Their missions will be taken over by the remaining 3 Agents.

The members of the Empyrean Lord's legion will meet in a secluded place and their only mission will be to select a new Agent.

The method of selecting an Agent differs each time and the reason for that is that the Lord and the previous Agent have made recommendations as to what kind of person to select.

However, the procedure is usually as follows. The members of the Empyrean Lord's legion vote four times a day, and for an Agent to be selected, he or she needs to receive the vote of at least 5 members.

Before they vote, they will cleanse body and soul, praying to the Lord in the language of ancient Atreia. Then they write the name of the contender on a clean piece of cloth, which are then collected in a secret box.

When all members of the Lord's legion are done, and the votes counted, the cloth pieces are burnt beyond recognition.

If the smoke from the burning cloth is white, the procedure will be repeated. That means an Agent has not been selected.

The votes usually take place 4 times a day and the prayer to the Lord on the last day of the week. In the past, this procedure once lasted a whole 3 years.

Since the requirements for becoming an Agent are very strict and it takes a long time, a protector of the Empyrean Lord is temporarily elected.

Since this is only a temporary position, its duties and authorities will vanish as soon as an Agent is selected.

Good. Now let's say you've become a member of the Empyrean Lord's legion and have been selected as contender for the position of Agent. Your name was on the cloth and when it burned, the smoke was black.

Well now, there's one more thing left to do before you can become an Agent, and that is to pick a new name. You will be leaving your old life as a Daeva behind and will become part of the Lord's family.

After you've received your new name and cleansed body and soul to offer a prayer to the Empyrean Lord, you can finally stand before him as one of his Agents.

First you ascend as Daeva.

Then you receive recognition as Class Preceptor.

You gather 5 followers and become a Brigade General.

Then, become a Brigade General of a union with at least 100 members.

Then, you become one of 8 members of the Empyrean Lord's legion.

You wait until the current Agent retires or returns to the flow of Aether.

And then you have to convince 5 of your legion comrades to select you.

Only then will you become one of the Four Wings of the Empyrean Lord!
